Attorney Profile
Erica N. Vargas
I am a Colorado native and was born and raised in Lakewood, Colorado. I live in the house across the street where I grew up and I truly enjoy being part of this community and watching how my neighborhood has grown and changed over time.
I went to undergraduate school at Vassar College and loved the experience of being away from home in a diverse community but found that my heart remained in Colorado. I returned here for my law degree and attended the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law. I worked full-time and attended law school in the evenings. It was a challenging work load but made me realize the importance of maintaining a good work/life balance.
I started practicing law in 2006 and knew I wanted to work with people directly and not in the corporate sector. This drew me towards family law. I interned at a large family law firm and took a position there as an associate attorney. That provided me great exposure to experienced attorneys in my field and ample first hand work as a family law attorney. I was an attorney at the Harris Law Firm for three years and then I decided that I needed to expand my experience and legal knowledge.
As a result, I took a position as an attorney with the law firm of Cohen & Cohen, P.C. It afforded me the opportunity to learn bankruptcy law and to get an inside look at how a smaller law firm operates. I built great friendships and learned an immense amount about how I would like to model my own firm.
In 2017 I tested the waters again at a large law firm and took a position as the lead bankruptcy attorney for the firm of Robinson & Henry, P.C. It pushed me to realize that I no longer wanted to work for someone else and fit into their model of business, but rather I wanted to start my own firm and create a model of business that I felt best served my clients and my goals.
I started my own law firm, The Vargas Law Firm, P.C. in January of 2018 and have enjoyed every minute of working in the community that I love and establishing a business that I hope will serve the community for years to come.
